Using AI is... interesting. As it gets better it gets increasing more compelling to use. And this is especially true as a software developer. Or at least it is true for me and I suspect that the reasons are similar. I like writing code. But what I like more is solving problems and creating something new. AI gets me there faster. With enough guidance, it even writes the code in a very similar fashion. Add in a thorough code review and I don't even feel bad about it. Make sure that I or the AI write some meaningful tests and there is very little to complain about. I get the bigger dopamine hit and I get it faster, which means I can get it more often. AI usage is effectively a drug for the developers who crave the results over the process. The problem eventually becomes employability. Over time you stop using the skills and lose them or they become rusty. Interviews are becoming a real eye opener for me. It isn't even that I feel I've lost the skills. I likely am worse than I...
